Samuel L. Banks picked the wrong time to come across a wounded Omar Strong. Strong, whose turnover in the final seconds began Douglass’ collapse in the Baltimore City championship game last week, exploded for 50 points Tuesday, leading No. 6 Douglass to a 92-56 victory in the Class 2A state North Region quarterfinals Tuesday on Gwynns Falls Parkway.
The Ducks (18-5), seeded No. 2 in the region, will host City College Thursday for a spot in Saturday’s region championship game. The No. 3 seed and seventh-ranked Knights dispatched Northwestern in Tuesday’s other quarterfinal contest.
Robert Eubanks added 12 points for the Ducks. Senior John High had 20 points for Banks, and Marquise Johnson added 13.

Sean Farr scored 18 points, and junior guard Tavon Austin added 15 as Dunbar advanced in the 1A North Region tourney with a quarterfinal home decision over Carver. The Poets (13-8)will visit Pikesville Thursday in the semifinals. Pikesville held off Western Tech, 64-59, in triple overtime Tuesday.
Senior guard Anthony Gregory scored a game-high 30 points to lead Carver (8-15).

Trevor Howze scored 15 points, and Coreise Bruce added 12, lifting No. 7 seed Patterson past second-seed Patapsco in a 3A North Region quarterfinals. The Clippers will play Baltimore City league rival Mervo in Thursday’s semifinals. Mervo held off Dundalk, 39-36, in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.
Micquante Greene led all scorers with 25 points for Patapsco (14-8), and James Buettner added 13. Tyrell Crowell and Brian Lewis each chipped 10 for the Clippers.

Sophomore forward Roscoe Smith scored a game-high 21 points as Walbrook held off Linganore in a Class 4A North Region quarterfinal. The Warriors, seeded fourth, will play at top-seed and No. 16 Parkville Thursday.
The Warriors (12-10) had a 14-point lead early in the final quarter, but Linganore (11-12) got to within two. The Frederick County school missed an opportunity to tie late in the regulation. Rob Havenstein led Linganore with 13 points and six rebounds.
